Max Bissett, Redlands Town Crier, purchased a Rotary Bowelscan kit in 2003 which he claims saved his life. Below is his story.
“I was a healthy active person looking forward to retirement and never dreamed I had any health problems.
It was my wife that dragged me kicking and screaming into a pharmacy at Capalaba in 2003 and insisted I buy a Rotary Bowelscan kit that ended up saving my life. I was shattered to be told a week later that all three samples came out positive.
My failure to have earlier annual bowel scans cost me dearly, and I now have to wear a colostomy bag following surgery that removed my anus, rectum and transverse colon.
I underwent radio-therapy and extensive surgery, and it took nearly three years to properly recover. But I am now enjoying life and in 2005 came 16th in the World Town Crier Competition and fifth in the Australian Championships where I hit 96.2 decibels.”
The combined Rotary Clubs in the Redlands endorse Max’s message, and encourage all members of the public over 40 years to have an annual Bowelscan test.
