March is Rotary Bowelscan Month – EVERY year.

Each year in March the four Rotary clubs in the Redlands combine their efforts to:

  • raise awareness in the community about the seriousness and prevalence of bowel cancer; and

  • provide access for all to an inexpensive self-test kit to encourage  early detection of the disease, which can and does save lives.

This project has consistently resulted in saving the lives of approximately one in 17 men and one in 27 women of those participating, and the combined clubs aim to have everyone over 40 plus those who have a genetic disposition to the disease purchase a kit and undertake the simple test every year.

Information regarding the 2009 Redland campaign will be made available on this website from December 2008, and you are encouraged to follow up on this by purchasing, completing and returning a kit during March 2009.

For those people who reside outside the Redlands and are unable to access a kit through their local pharmacy will be able to obtain one from the Rotary clubs in the Redlands by POST by following the procedures given elsewhere in this web site under Get a Kit.

The Rotary Bowelscan Project is an Australia-wide initiative of Rotary clubs in the Australia – South Pacific area and recommended by the Australian Rotary Health Research Foundation as a community assistance program.

If you have participated in this project previously and received a clearance it does not automatically discount you from developing bowel cancer in the future, so for your own peace of mind, be sure to undertake the test every year.

Remember – Remove the doubt; check yourself out!
